We understand that healing from abuse is not a straightforward path and a group gathering might not be right for you. If you would like to learn more from someone who has experienced the group, one of our regular members, Mike Kirse, has recorded this video. Mike and others are open to meeting over the phone to talk about the group and the meetings. Email us to be connected with them.
SURVIVOR GATHERINGS
Inspired by victims and survivors, Journey to Bethany has established a monthly gathering. This is a safe, welcoming space where survivors can connect with those who share similar experiences. At each gathering we present an activity and tools to help foster peace, hope and healing. You are welcome on any third Tuesday and can invite a support person to join you if needed. You may share or contribute as much or as little as is comfortable for you.
Journey to Bethany Survivor Gathering | Monthly, Third Tuesdays through December 2024
6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
HJ’s Community Center, 6425 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64113 (Brookside Area)
If you have questions please email us or call Jennifer Prusa at 816-683-8999.
WHAT TO EXPECT
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THE GATHERING?
The group gathers in the Conference Room on the left side of the space when you enter the building. We also have the option to meet outside around a firepit. When people arrive, they help themselves to water and light snacks, and they make a nametag. Whitney True-Francis is there to greet everyone.
We sit at a table or around the fire and introduce ourselves. Then we begin an activity that helps us discover self-care and access tools for coping, healing, and hope. You can share and contribute as much or as little is as comfortable for you. Survivors have found the conversation to be helpful, hopeful, and validating.
CAN I BRING A FRIEND OR SUPPORT PERSON?
Yes. That person can participate in the group, listen, or sit outside the room. Whatever works for you.
