Mass for Day of Prayer in Atonement for those Harmed by Sexual Abuse
Planned by the diocese and including participation from survivors in the Journey to Bethany community, this Mass will recognize the annual Day of Prayer. Bishop Johnston will preside and the entire community is welcome to attend or to participate in other ways to pray.
Each year since 2017, the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph sets aside one day during April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, devoted to prayer in atonement for those harmed by sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. This started with the Service of Lament in 2016, where Bishop James Johnston made five commitments to the people of the diocese which included naming April 26 as an Annual Day of Prayer. This year, since April 26 falls on a Saturday, the day is recognized on April 28.
